The Big VR Winners at Unity Vision Summit 2017

unity2017

The second North American Vision VR/AR Summit in Los Angeles kicked off and over a thousand developers, programmers, artists, founders, and business leaders gathered to discuss, learn, and explore the future ov VR and AR. The 2017 Vision VR/AR Summit Awards also took place and here are the big VR winners we were looking for:

  • Best Game – Superhot VR (SUPERHOT Team)

As we are still expecting Superhot VR on HTC Vive, this Oculus Rift title brought something different to the VR world. We can’t say if it’s the best VR game, and we’re sure it would be way more fun on the Vive but this unique combination of action, puzzle, and time control grew in popularity very fast and we know there’s a reason for that. Congratulations, SUPERHOT Team.

  • Best Cinematic VR – Zero Days VR (Scatter)

Zero Days is a documentary focused on Stuxnet – a piece of self-replicating computer malware that the US and Israel unleashed to destroy a key part of an Iranian nuclear facility, and which ultimately spread beyond its intended target. Presented in VR, it brings a whole new experience to the table.

  • Artistic Achievement Award – Chocolate (Tyler Hurd)

“Chocolate” is a song by Giraffage, and it has a psychedelic VR music video experience set in a chrome cat-centric world. The video was made by the acclaimed VR creator, 3D animator and filmmaker Tyler Hurd. Now, experiencing music videos in VR is one thing but experiencing this particular video is just… something else.

  • Best VR Experience – ASTEROIDS! (Baobab Studios)

If you have a Samsung Gear VR you should check this one out, especially now after it won this prestigious award. “ASTEROIDS!” is an interactive comedy created by the “Madagascar” co-director Eric Darnell. It debuted on Sundance 2017 and even though it received mixed reactions, one can’t deny its charm.

And the rest of the 2017 Vision VR/AR Summit Awards were:

Best 360 Video – MIYUBI (Felix & Paul Studios + Funny or Die)
Technical Achievement Award – Ghostbusters: Dimension (The Void and Hyper Reality)
Narrative Achievement Award – Zero Days VR (Scatter)
Best AR Experience – ProtoSpace (NASA)
Social Impact Award – Out of Exile: Daniel’s Story (Emblematic Group, Atrevida Productions, True Colors Fund)

Do you agree these winners deserve their awards? What VR experience would you choose in each category? Tell us here or on our Facebook page!
